Chili’s Menu Vs Applebee’s Menu

When you're in the mood for a traditional American restaurant with moderate pricing and unique flavor who do you think of? Surprisingly most Americans think of Chili's or Applebees. But what's the difference between these two delicious restaurants and which one is better?
Actually these restaurants could be two in the same. The Chili's menu doesn't change much from Applebees and if one decided to change the branding you wouldn't be able to discern a difference. They both offer up traditional entrees like Burgers, Chicken, Ribs, Soups, Salads, Appetizers, Fajitas and both price the dishes about the same. Currently both restaurants are even offering the same exact coupon special – 2 for $20 for the same exact type meal. Now both restaurants are themed differently but the menu, it's almost all the same to me. I guess it takes your taste buds to do the walking.
Chili's claims to be Tex Mex inspired and one look at their menu you can see why. Applebees on the other hand represents itself as your friendly neighborhood restaurant but reviewing their menu you would think they're more southwestern like chili's with jalapeño burgers and spicy quesadillas. Although Applebees does do more American style steaks and american style pastas unlike chili's whose signature dishes are more chicken & southwestern based.
If I had to vote I would chose Chili's. Maybe it's they're spicier entrées or maybe it's the delicious burgers but I seem to always choose Chili's. I haven't had any bad experiences with Applebees it's just my natural choice. I also a bigger fan of Chili's appetizer menu. It's very similar to Applebees but to me it just taste better.
Both restaurants get 4 stars out of 5 stars for traditional American cuisine from me but I'd like to know your opinions. Whose your favorite and why?
